WEL Networks

Transforming WEL Networks’ AMP into a clearer, smarter and more compelling infrastructure story.

Background

WEL Networks engaged D&Co to help rethink and elevate the way its Asset Management Plan (AMP) was developed, structured, written and experienced. Traditionally, AMP documents are highly technical, inconsistent in tone, difficult to navigate and often disconnected from the broader brand and customer story of the organisation. WEL Networks wanted to create an AMP that not only met regulatory and industry expectations, but also reflected the future direction of the business - showcasing innovation, resilience, strategic thinking and a stronger connection to the communities it serves.

D&Co partnered with WEL Networks to deliver an end-to-end transformation spanning:

  • Global best-practice AMP research

  • Strategic direction and narrative development

  • AMP structure and content recommendations

  • Creative direction and photography

  • Deployment of D&Co’s new Brand Voice product

  • Rewriting and refining 400+ pages of content

  • Final document design and experience uplift

The result was a far more engaging, human, navigable and strategically aligned AMP.

D&Co brought together strategic thinking, creative direction and innovative Experience.eQ™ powered tools to completely elevate our AMP. From the photography and contemporary design through to refining more than 400 pages of content into a consistent and engaging voice, the entire process was collaborative, seamless and incredibly well delivered.”

— Kerry Green, GM Asset Management, WEL Networks

The challenge

Like many large infrastructure organisations, WEL Networks faced a number of common AMP challenges:

  • Multiple authors contributing content across different business units

  • Inconsistent writing styles, tone and terminology

  • Technical information difficult for broader audiences to digest

  • Limited emotional connection to the customer and community outcomes

  • Traditional AMP structures that prioritised compliance over communication

  • A document that needed to balance technical depth with strategic clarity

The business also recognised that the AMP represented more than a compliance document.

It was an opportunity to reinforce WEL Networks’ positioning as a progressive, future-focused energy provider investing in resilience, innovation and customer outcomes.

This project was a great example of what happens when strategic thinking, creativity and Experience.eQ™ powered products come together. We’re incredibly proud of the outcome and the opportunity to help WEL Networks transform such an important document into something far more human, engaging and reflective of the future direction of the business.”

— Russ Douglas, Founder & Principal Strategist, D&Co

D&Co partnered with WEL Networks to transform its AMP into a strategically aligned, human-centred and beautifully designed document experience powered by global best practice, creative storytelling and Experience.eQ™ driven brand voice technology.

Our solution

D&Co partnered with WEL Networks to transform the AMP from a traditional compliance-focused document into a far more strategic, human and engaging experience.

The project began with extensive global best-practice research across New Zealand and international infrastructure organisations to understand how leading energy and utility businesses were evolving the structure, usability and storytelling within their Asset Management Plans. This research helped identify opportunities to improve navigation, strengthen strategic narrative, simplify technical communication and create a more cohesive experience for readers.

Working closely with the WEL Networks team, D&Co then helped shape the overarching narrative and positioning of the AMP around themes such as resilience, future energy demand, innovation, sustainability and customer outcomes. The intention was to create a document that not only fulfilled regulatory requirements, but also reflected the ambition and future direction of the business.

A significant part of the transformation involved the deployment of D&Co’s new Experience.eQ™ powered Brand Voice product. More than 400 pages of AMP content written by multiple contributors across the organisation were reviewed, refined and rewritten into a far more consistent and on-brand narrative. The product helped improve clarity, readability and tonal consistency, while still retaining the technical depth and integrity required within the document.

Alongside the content transformation, D&Co developed the creative direction for the AMP, including a bespoke photography approach designed to better capture the scale of the network, the people behind the infrastructure and WEL Networks’ connection to the communities it serves. The visual direction helped shift the AMP into a more contemporary and engaging communication piece.

Finally, D&Co brought the entire document together through a comprehensive design and editorial process focused on improving information hierarchy, readability, navigation and visual consistency. The result was a polished, strategically aligned and human-centred AMP that elevated the overall experience while reinforcing WEL Networks’ position as a progressive and future-focused energy provider.
